Dreaming about a dragon can be quite the experience! Today we’ll share a little bit about the dragon as a symbol and share some common dream examples and what they mean so you can understand what your dream means.

What Does it Mean to Dream About Dragons?

While some people may find that dragons can be terrifying in a dream, others may have a dream about a dragon where they find the creature quite friendly.

Dragons are winged serpent creatures and are often associated with many myths, stories, and fairy tales.

Power & Strength

Dragons are often seen as large fierce creatures that require very brave people with special powers to defeat in most story books. There is no messing around with a dragon!

When we have a dream about a dragon, it usually means that we need to pay attention to our own power in our lives. Are we in a situation where we feel powerless and out of control? Do we feel like others are trying to force us to do things we don’t want to?

Because the creature is so strong and powerful, it is important to know this also tends to carry through to other possible themes and meanings.

Vivid Imagination & Creativity

If I told you I saw a dragon while driving down my street this morning, you would think I must have a very powerful and vivid imagination, because that surely is unusual.

People have been telling stories and legends about dragons for thousands upon thousands of years. Some of these stories are of course naturally believed to be just that – an expression of a very vivid imagination.

Imagination and creativity are generally considered to be positive things. If you have a vivid imagination, you might be good at solving problems in unique ways. You may be drawn to creative activities like drawing, painting, sculpting, making music or writing.

Sometimes imagination and creativity can be too much of a good thing. If you are very creative and different from everyone else, you may have a hard time fitting in. You may sometimes feel like you aren’t good enough or accepted by other people you know.

Dragons are often regarded as mythical creatures, so it’s no surprise that people who dream about them often relate their experiences with the creatures to their own feelings of fantasy and imagination.

Isolation & Time Alone

Another interesting aspect to think about dragons is they are not very social creatures. I haven’t read too many tales of old that describe 50 serpents gathering in a grove to celebrate someone’s birthday.

Frequently, we picture them as being away from everyone else. They live on the edge of the town, they live far away in the woods, they live in a cave up on a mountain, they might even live up high in the sky amongst the clouds.

Isolation and time alone is another one of those things that we can see as a strength or a weakness. Being by ourselves can give us an opportunity to reflect, do inner work, and explore things independently.

Doing things on your own can give you a sense of pride and accomplishment and empower you to have more confidence.

Being alone isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes we just need time away from the other things in our life, especially if there are people in our lives that stress us out or add a lot of unnecessary drama.

However, there are other times when isolation and loneliness can swallow us whole. Often times we worry that we might be a burden if we ask other people for help.

We might feel like others do not like us or do not want to be with us – even if that may not be completely accurate.

Sadly, some people are just really busy being too self-absorbed with their own needs and wants – that has nothing to do with you.

If you are feeling lonely or isolated, it’s important to understand why. Do you feel like no one understands? Did you just move to a new town and have no friends yet? Are you getting over the loss of someone close to you?

This feeling is completely natural – we all feel it from time to time. It’s important to identify the reasons you might feel lonely and evaluate whether it’s just a matter of perhaps meeting some new people or whether you should consider reaching out to a professional to work out the causes of these feelings.

Dream About a Flying Dragon

Seeing a dragon fly in the sky symbolizes success and triumph, but seeing one on the ground can sometimes be a sign that there is a serious issue. Dragons might come to you in a dream when it’s time for you to confront something you feel guilty about or when it’s time for you to deal with disappointment. Seeing a dragon in your dream can often signify that the time has come for you to be more direct and outspoken.

Being Afraid of Dragons

It’s not unusual to be afraid of a large fire breathing creature such as a dragon! However it is important to remember that dragons are imaginary and nothing to fear.

If you dream you are afraid of a dragon, it means that your fears in your waking life may be irrational. It is time for you to really examine the situation and understand that even if things may seem scary they aren’t always dangerous.

For example, it can be scary to love someone – because you might get hurt in the relationship. However, it’s not dangerous to be in a healthy relationship!

If you see a sick or injured dragon in your dreams, it means you are feeling weak. You may lack confidence in yourself and are unable to see a solution to the problem. Or you are very scared of someone or something in your waking life and wish to avoid it as much as possible.

If you dream you have a sick dragon, then you can get over your fears by being more self-assured. If you are feeling weak, then it is time for you to become more confident and assertive at work or in other situations and by realizing that what others say or do does not really matter.

Of course, not all dragons in dreams are big, mean, and scary! You can certainly encounter friendly and helpful dragons in your dreams. If you meet a friendly and kind dragon in your dreams, it can be a reminder to you that things are not always as they appear. Beauty is on the inside as the saying goes, and it can remind you to look within to see the truth of a situation.

If the dragon is being nasty, then it means you are being too hard on yourself and need to find a better way of handling things.

  1. I just had a dream where there was an opening into a cave inside a house and that opening was dragon face-shaped, it seemed to be alive, too and was full of fire/lava and I was talking to the house owners about how lucky they were that they can use it for heating the house for free xD and we discussed how to make it more consistent. Now that I think about it it’s probably about my energy levels πŸ€”
